What is Marin Stables & Trails, Inc?

Marin Stables & Trails, Inc., is a 501(c)3 non-profit public benefit corporation organized in 2005 to restore and preserve historic Marin Stables, provide community outreach programs that benefit and educate all socio-economic age groups and assist Marin Municipal Water District with invasive species control and trail maintenance. We rely on tax-deductible contributions to accomplish our mission.

Where is Marin Stables?

Marin Stables is located at 139 Wood Lane, Fairfax, Ca., 94930. Directions: From Hwy 101 take Sir Francis Drake Blvd/Greenbrae exit west to Fairfax, take a left by the Fairfax Theater and turn right on Broadway. Go one block to Bolinas Ave, turn left on Bolinas to Porteous and turn left, keep to the right one and a half blocks to Wood Lane and turn right. The Stable is located at the end of Wood Lane. Please drive slowly when entering the property! Marin Stables is one of the gateways to the Watershed and offers wonderful hiking trails. Please make sure your dogs are leashed!

Are there parking or use fees?

No, it is free to hike from Marin Stables!

Who takes care of the horses?

Taking care of the horses is a full time job and a labor of love, which is overseen daily by concessionaire Ruff Spot, LLC, under the expert direction of Jim McDermott and his team.

What community outreach programs are offered?

Marin Stables is more than a recreational riding facility, it is a vital part of the local community. It is the site of nature and historic education for local elementary school children, therapeutic and mentoring programs for Marin residents, nature deficit education for children and adults, programs for developmentally disabled adults, educational programs for girl and cub scouts, Junior Bike education in association with MMWD and our annual Christmas Adopt-A-Family program. Where does my donation go and what is it used for?

All donations to Marin Stables & Trails, Inc., go directly to fund outreach programs and restoration projects. Marin Stables & Trails has a dedicated core of unpaid Board Members and volunteers who do all the hard work in order to provide these programs free of charge to participants.

How can I volunteer?

We welcome anyone who has the time and commitment and who would like to share our wonderful community outreach programs, assist on restoration programs or would like to help with trail or invasive species maintenance.
